New Family Checklist

Start with the practical details. Leave room for the discoveries.

A little preparation makes room for a better start.

Use this checklist to guide conversations before joining Ideal.

These are preparation prompts, not an official list of admission requirements. The school confirms the details that apply to your student. Check off the conversations you have completed; progress is saved only in this browser.

No student records or personal details are saved here.

Let the student help shape the conversation.

Ask what they are looking forward to and what feels unfamiliar. A new school can bring both excitement and uncertainty. Help them identify one adult to approach with questions and one activity or subject they want to explore.

For a transfer, discuss the academic transition explicitly: previous courses, language placement, and the plan for any remaining requirements. Bring records to the school’s attention early enough for a thoughtful review.

Pay attention to the first few weeks.

Establish a routine

Choose a regular time to review assignments and prepare for the next day. Adjust it as your student learns the actual workload.

Ask specific questions

What did you discuss in class? Which task took longer than expected? Who helped you understand something?

Raise concerns early

Keep examples and contact the teacher or advisor when a difficulty persists. Avoid waiting until several small problems feel unmanageable.

Notice progress

Recognize a useful question, a new connection, or a revision that shows care. Settling in includes more than grades.

Keep the right contacts close.

A CLOSER LOOK

Prepare for the first few weeks

A useful transition plan covers both organization and confidence. Keep school contacts in one place, discuss the commute, prepare a system for assignments, and invite your student to name any questions they are reluctant to ask. A family check-in can focus on what feels clear, what feels unfamiliar, and what needs a conversation with school.

Review confirmed start dates and instructions before purchasing materials or arranging transportation. The checklist on this page can help track preparation on this browser, but it is not an enrollment record. Important forms, deadlines, and student information must still be handled through the method the school provides.
